What’s the secret to long life? If you ask Mary Gladys Sams, she would tell you it’s keeping active and being of service to others while doing something you love. This amazing woman is 103 years old and spends her days fashioning dresses out of pillowcases for needy children the world over. She has partnered with local churches who put her in touch with those in need and “Mom-maw” takes it from there!
Mary Gladys' most recent project is creating beautifully simple dresses to send to little girls in Honduras. At the time of the video, she had already sewn 115 unique designs for children of all ages and sizes. Don’t think the boys are forgotten, though. She also enjoys making darling stuffed animals that accompany the shipment of dresses. She wants to be sure that the brothers of the dress recipients don’t feel left out. What a sweetheart!
When she’s not at her sewing machine carrying out her labor-of-love, this sweet senior spends her time on other pursuits that help keep her mind sharp and her heart full. Some of her favorite pastimes include making necklaces out of church bulletins, playing solitaire on her iPad, and filling in her adult coloring books.
