When his two friends started getting swept away, this black lab had to do something to help. He jumped into the river, swam over to the canoe and pulled his friends to safety. Showing that he really did live up to his name... this retriever, "retrieved" his friends.

Labrador Retrievers were bred to be both a friendly companion and a useful working dog breed. Historically, he earned his keep as a fisherman’s helper, hauling nets, fetching ropes and retrieving fish from the chilly North Atlantic. Today's labrador retriever is as good-natured and hard working as his ancestors and he’s America’s most popular breed. In this video, you can see the two dogs start to panic as the canoe they are stranded in, starts moving downstream. While their owner is trying to keep them calm, the black lab decides to jump right into the rushing water to save his friends.
