A lot of people can’t help but move when they hear the savory sound of country music, especially when they hear it performed live. While searching through videos online, we came across this gem of a performance by a nine-year-old named Carson Peters. Standing on stage at the noteworthy Grand Ole Opry, Peters was living out a dream of his.

Carson began playing the fiddle when he was just three years old. Over the years, his interest in the instrument turned into a passion, and his words somehow always managed to turn into songs. After only one year of playing, he was singing classic Bluegrass with a sultry talent that was well beyond his years. His parents knew he was going to do big things.

Carson was only four years old when he started entering Bluegrass competitions. After winning competition after competition, his family quickly realized that his talent would take him far. While Carson enjoyed playing his music and singing the songs written by the greats, he really had one specific dream, and that was to play at the Grand Ole Opry.

Playing at the Opry means you’ve made it as a country music artist. All the greats including Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Minnie Pearl, and Johnny Cash have played there. So when Carson was asked to make an appearance at the famous music hall, he was overwhelmed.

On July 31, 2014, Carson arrived at the Grand Ole Opry full of gratitude and pride. He was scheduled to perform with the great Ricky Skaggs. When he made his way to the stage, he held his composure like a professional. Ricky gave him a nice introduction and then asked him the question that music lovers have been debating over for years. He said, “Carson, what’s the difference between a fiddle and a violin.” Carson bashfully shared his answer with the crowd, “Well Ricky, a violin has ‘strings,’ and a fiddle has ‘strangs.’”

The crowd burst out into laughter. As the nine-year-old grinned he held his head high with pride. Just when the crowd thought they couldn’t love him anymore, Carson began playing one of the most recognizable songs in Bluegrass music: Blue Moon Of Kentucky. The audience instantly cheered.

Carson performed with such dignity that it was hard to believe that he was only nine years old! He played his fiddle with confidence and sang the words with the soul of a grown man; there was no denying his talent. Check out his performance, below, and prepare to be blown away - this kid is the real deal!
