Black Cherry Fudge Ripple Ice Cream Is What We’ve All Been Waiting For
You know the song- I scream! You scream! We all scream for ice cream! Well, in my house, it’s our famous anthem. With a family of six very finicky and frequent ice cream eaters, it can be hard- not to mention tight in the freezer- to accommodate so many different flavors of ice cream. One thing we can always agree on though is Black Cherry. If you like the sweetness of cherry with the soft cream of vanilla, and the perfect amount of chocolate, then you’re about to get really happy.
Ashley, founder of the online recipe publication Kitchen Meets Girl, has been perfecting black cherry ice cream- or as she calls it, “Black Cherry Fudge Ripple Ice Cream”- for the last decade. And thanks to the internet, she’s decided to share it with the rest of us!
When I first found this recipe, I was in desperate need of a new and exciting take on my favorite flavor. Not only that, but when the late- night freezer stocker started saving pints of ice cream specifically for my family, I got a little embarrassed. We were known as “the late night ice cream family” to everyone at our local grocer. Not a bad title, by any means! But after that nickname, I decided it was time to give Ashley’s recipe a go!
At first, I was hesitant because I had never homemade ice cream before. But after my first batch, I kicked myself for not trying it sooner! It was so DELICIOUS! My 9 x 5-inch pan was devoured in one night!
The best part about this recipe is, of course, the cherries. We live in the Pacific Northwest, which happens to be the region for the some of the sweetest cherries in the world. So when I picked up my cherries from the local farmer’s market, I could hardly wait to try them.
They were so sweet and juicy. I couldn’t wait to see how they’d pair with the chocolate chunks. I ran in the door and immediately got to cookin’ and boy, did I underestimate this recipe! Right from the moment I started boiling my cherries, my kitchen smelled like a cherry haven.
The kids came running in at the smell to help with the recipe. And it was SO FUN! The recipe was easy and only took less than 20 minutes. We set the creamy goodness in the freezer and patiently waited for what we knew would be the best cherry ice cream.
