When I was a little girl, I was asked what I wanted to be when I got older. I always responded, "I want to deliver babies!" My mom was so proud. "You want to be a doctor?" she asked. "NO,” I clarified, “I just want to take the babies from the doctor and give them to their moms." Well, this little girl got to do just that, and a whole lot more, when a doctor in Mississippi decided to exceed this 12-year-old’s expectations and let her deliver her brother, literally.

Jacee Dellapena couldn't wait until her new baby brother was born. This seventh-grader from Brandon, Mississippi, however, got the shock of her life when the doctor let her physically help bring her baby brother into the world, getting to cut his umbilical cord and all!

Jacee wanted to be in the delivery room and watch her brother being born, but her mom was lying on a table that was propped up too high for her to see. “I started crying because I was too short to see anything,” she told TODAY. “The doctor was like, 'Just go ahead and get some gear on and come help me deliver the baby.' I was like, are you kidding me? Are you being real?”

This even came as a surprise to her mom, Dede Carraway, 34. “I couldn’t believe it. I was like, what? Uh, no. Never in a million years. But the doctor said, ‘I’m being serious. I’ll guide her hands and everything',” Carraway said. “So she got up in there and was suddenly in the middle of everything.”

“Jacee had planned on being a veterinarian when she grew up but, after this experience, I'm sure she'll consider being an OB/GYN,” her mother said. Thanks to this amazing doctor who took the time to make this day one she will never forget! Jacee's experience was all captured in a series of photographs taken by her stepfather, the baby's father-Zach Carraway. All photos are by Zack.

“I couldn’t believe it!" she exclaimed. "It was like, Oh my goodness! I just delivered a baby, and it’s my baby brother, and I’m going to tell him when he gets older that I delivered him. I can’t wait.”
