The Holiday Season is one of the most special times of the year! Christmas lights take neighborhoods from ordinary to enchanted; holiday music fills the crisp, empty air; and of course, freshly-baked cookies and sugary sweets take up all the open counter space. Along with the universally-known seasonal customs, each family tends to take a stab at creating their own holiday traditions, which make the Christmas season even more extraordinary!

I’ve always been somewhat of a simple girl when it comes to Christmas traditions. Like most, I enjoy listening to the time-honored tunes on my radio. I burn holiday candles and put up the tree with my family. Something changed for me this year, though. I began hearing all sorts of fascinating traditions that other families practice and, after taking in so many unique ideas for celebrating the Christmas season, I was eager to introduce some of them to my own family!

The first tradition that I learned about was having a Santa Claus dress-up contest! For this tradition, simply pick up some white shaving cream and scour your closet for “Santa-esque” pieces of clothing. Then, everyone dons their best Santa Claus outfits and adds a shaving cream beard - and it’s a party for everyone!

Have a Christmas movie night - complete with Christmas goodies! This is an easy one for all of us; everyone gets into their cozy PJs, every pillow and blanket in the house finds its way to the living room for a massive slumber party, and you put on your favorite Christmas movie. The night isn’t complete without some homemade, colorful, and personalized snacks!

Christmas carols as a family is another awesome way to spread Christmas cheer to your neighbors and family. A tradition that is not practiced by many anymore, Christmas caroling is fun for all and gets even the most “Grinch-y” people into a holiday mood. If you were to go caroling, what song would you want to sing?

And last, but certainly not least, hand-make your holiday cards! This is something that my grandparents used to do with my mom, and she loved it! It’s a great way to create a unique gift for someone else while spending quality time remembering the true spirit of the season - love.

If you have some other family traditions, be sure to share them with us! We’d love to find out how you spread your Christmas cheer!
