Eric Clapton, one of the world’s most talented singers, songwriters, and musicians, is going deaf at the age of 72.

The international sensation has been entertaining since he was 18 years old and, with no intent to ever stop, it seems his age is telling him otherwise. In a recent interview, Eric shared that his biggest fears were coming to pass and he was ‘terrified.’ As a man who has spent his life creating music, the reality of becoming deaf is truly tragic.

For the last five decades, Eric Clapton has made music history; he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, he has 18 Grammy Awards, and he’s been named The Most Influential and Important Guitarist in music history by Rolling Stone. Truly, his success in the music industry is far more than impressive.

Eric has undoubtedly lived a rich life, but like the rest of the world, he continues to age. His concern about aging has been quite private over the years, but recently, he got quite candid about his real fears and shared some of the most devastating news: he is going deaf.

In a recent interview, Eric shared of how the reality of aging was catching up to him, “I mean, I'm going deaf, I've got tinnitus, my hands just about work," he said. "I mean, I'm hoping that people will come along and see me just because, or maybe more than because I'm a curiosity. It's amazing to myself that I'm still here."

The last album that Eric recorded in 2016 proved to be one of the most difficult projects; Eric created it while having severe eczema on his hands. He said, “It was so bad while making the album that "the palms of my hand were coming off...It was a catastrophe, " he said. "I had to wear mittens with Band-Aids around the hands and played a lot of slide [guitar] as a result."

Recently, Eric has been more public about his health issues and much of his personal life has been captured in the documentary: "Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars." Eric speaks highly of the documentary but shares that it’s difficult for him to watch. "If you're going to go and see it, be prepared for a heavy ride.” While in the midst of his inevitable aging, he acknowledges goodness through the trial of getting older by saying, "I think it's important to see that life has a happy ending, it's like a redemption concept.”

We wish the best for Eric Clapton. We hope his life is rich and that he finds joy in every day.
