Time To Get Up And Get Moving. How To Go From Running 3 Miles To 13.1

Two years ago in November, I decided I wanted to run a half-marathon. Now this is coming from a girl who the furthest I had ever run was 3 miles and I could barely do that. But I was determined to do it so I signed up, paid the fee and was all set to go. Little did I know the training process I was about to enter into would have me running 8 miles in less than a month. I remember my first day of training, I hopped on that treadmill and eagerly started to run. About 2 miles into the run, I was exhausted and thought to myself, "I am not a runner, I can't do this." But I knew I couldn't quit. I committed to it and 2 months and 17 days later I ran 13.1 miles, completing my first half marathon. It was an overwhelming feeling and what I learned through the process is that your body can do ANYTHING it's your mind you have to convince. 

So, if you have never run or are wanting to start back up again, the first thing I would tell you is to just - START. Start where you are with what you have. The hardest thing you will do in the training process is to start. Next, have a plan and stick to it. There are many running plans out there, so find one that fits you. Next, schedule your runs - if you know Monday, Wednesday and Fridays work for you then write it into your schedule and don't miss it. I did the Nike+ app. and if I missed a run, it would show on the app. And if you're like me, you cant have the evidence of a fail. Ha! Also, find a running partner to keep you accountable and vice versa. I had a training partner, though he lived in another state, we did the Nike+ app. together and we kept each other accountable that way. Lastly, have fun! Running is fun and you'll learn that. It's also very therapeutic, and it relieves stress. So just go for it or as Nike would say, JUST DO IT! Watch the video below to get some running inspo.
