In honor of the upcoming Valentine holiday, one can’t help but think more deeply about love. In this day and age, we tend to throw around the word more often than not. Love, in its purest form, is quite a powerful force, bonding hearts and souls together in ways seemingly unimaginable.
Some of the best love stories are the ones that have stood the test of time, filled with tales of trials, heartache, successes, and victories. One couple, in particular, knows this to be very true.
A man named John was admitted to a hospital for an issue with his heart. When dealing with a condition such as this, one must take as many precautions as possible in order to overcome the situation.
Through this trial, his beloved wife was with him every step of the way. “My wife needs me and I can’t possibly leave her,” he said in an interview. That phrase was enough to keep him pressing on and fighting for his health.
One day while a nurse was running some tests, he began to talk about his wife. Little did she know just how powerful their story would be.
John was a telephone engineer and she a telephone operator. At work, he saw her walk by and that was the moment when he instantly knew he would be with her forever. They went on their first date June 28, 1946. 70 years later, they’re more in love than ever before.
His wife is now in the early stages of Alzheimer's. “The snag is you know it’s not going to get any better,” he said. “It’s sad. But I can’t be greedy. We’ve both had a good life together.”
He vows to make sure he is everything she needs and more during this trying time. Despite any heartache that life throws at them, they will fight on together, hand in hand. “If I had my life all over again, I’d want her as my partner.” Check out the video, below, to see the full story.
