It seems as though the flu epidemic has become completely overwhelming during recent months. This year, there have been more than three times the number of flu cases reported than in previous years. This flu has been so powerful that numerous individuals have been hospitalized and some children have tragically passed away due to its severity.

When you get hit with a sickness, it seems easier to stay at home quarantined in a bedroom in an attempt to sleep it off. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the smartest solution. It’s best to become knowledgeable about the illness that befalls you so you know when it’s time to break out of seclusion and head to the doctor. If you have any of the following symptoms with this year’s flu strain, it might be time to see your doctor.

High Fevers

This symptom should be an obvious one. If you or a loved one’s temperature reaches upwards of 103 degrees, a trip to the emergency room needs to be in order. When body temperatures range that high for too long, other devastating conditions can occur.

Pressure in the Body

Many have exhibited symptoms of severe chest pressure and incessant coughing. This can result in quicker exhaustion and even some difficulty breathing. If this is the case for you, it’s best to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Vomiting

Amid the other grueling symptoms of the flu, persistent vomiting is a big red flag. If you find yourself struggling to keep food or liquids down, go to the emergency room. Dehydration and malnutrition can cause your sickness to escalate at a rapid pace.

If your symptoms are less severe than the ones listed above, you should still refrain from taking this sickness lightly. Be sure to get as much rest as possible, drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, and, if the symptoms persist, talk to your doctor about a prescription to an antiviral drug that will speed up the recovery process.

While there’s no sure-fire way to prevent the flu, it’s best to be as sanitary as possible. If a loved one is contagious, remember to keep items sterilized and keep them out of the public until they are completely well. What are your best tips for getting rid of the flu?
