Simply Marvelous Horse world
Meet Big Jake, the Belgian Draft horse with a heart as big as he is. Jake is one sight to see and to be honest, you can't miss. At 20 hands tall and now 17 years old... Big Jake stands 6 feet 10.75 inches tall. He holds the Guinness book of World Records for the tallest horse in 2010 and 2013. Big Jake lives with his owner Jerry Gilbert on Smokey Hollow Farm in Poynette. Jerry said people tend to be speechless when they get a glimpse of Jake.
The average Belgian Heavy Draft horse stands between 16.2 and 17 hands (66 and 68 inches, 168 and 173 cm). On average the Belgian grows to weigh slightly over 900 kilograms (2,000 pounds). PetBreeds says the Belgian Draft Horse, which also goes by the name Belgian horse or Brabant, is a workhorse developed in the Brabant region of Belgium.
One of the strongest and heaviest breeds of draft horse, the Belgian is often brown in color with a mane that is typically lighter than the color of the horse, caused by the Flaxen gene. Belgians are cool-blooded, which means they are docile, hard workers, that excel in a number of industries such as forestry and agriculture and are often used for riding.
Of course, being a horse of that massive size has a huge appetite. Gilbert said that Big Jake eats 1.5 bales of hay a day and 32 quarts of oats. That's a whole lot of food! Besides being a big horse, Big Jake has a big heart. According to his website, Big Jake is also a supporter of the Madison, Wis., Ronald McDonald House. What an amazing horse! He is truly an amazing sight to see!
