Whether you'd like to admit it or not, Christmas really is right around the corner. It seems as though we just rang in the New Year and, yet, here we are once again! I'm surely not one to complain about that, though. This is one of my favorite times of year, and knowing that it's nearly time to pull out the Christmas decor makes me as giddy as a small child in a toy store. Something I've started doing the past few years is including homemade keepsakes in with my gift-giving. Not only is it pleasurable to do, but it's also a well-thought-out gift that your friends and family will cherish for years to come.

This DIY is definitely on my list this year! I've seen beautifully-crafted ornaments like this in home decor stores, but they often cost a pretty penny. Once I found out how simple they really are to make, I'm bummed I didn't know about it sooner! You can customize these beautiful snowglobe-inspired ornaments however you want. The possibilities are endless! To make these priceless keepsakes, you'll need glass ornaments, clear glitter, small figurines, long tweezers/forceps, hot glue, and white resin.

If you'd like to go the extra mile, you can also create your own miniature figurines to display inside your ornament. To make little homemade porcelain trees, you'll need cold porcelain, green paint, white paint, glitter, a toothpick, and small scissors.

Cut a small piece from a toothpick. This will be the bark of your tree, so feel free to color it a lovely brown shade with a marker. Mix a small amount of cold porcelain with white paint and glitter. Roll it into a ball and use your finger to flatten it slightly to create the base of the tree.

To ensure that this piece will fit into the bottom of the ornament, take the opening of the ornament and press down slightly to make an indentation in the clay. Cut off the excess clay. Stick the small toothpick into the clay base and let it dry. Mix up green cold porcelain. Roll it into a cylinder shape and stick that into the other end of the toothpick.

Roll it in your hands to taper the top. Using your scissors, make small snips all around to create branches. Start at the very top of the cylinder and work your way down. Once complete, set it aside to dry. After your tree is completely dry, brush a bit of white paint onto the branches to give the effect of freshly-fallen snow.

Let your paint dry. Once your little trees have been completed, it's time to move on to the placement. Gather together all your supplies for the ornament. Check out the following page to continue on to the second half of the instructions!
