Cleft lip is a congenital abnormality afflicting many people and animals. In most cases, animals born with a cleft lip are euthanized because of the time, effort, and cost of raising them. They are unable to nurse and require bottle feeding, and typically require surgery which many breeders and rescues can not afford.

Puka is an adorable brown and white dog who was born with a cleft lip; she was lucky enough to be saved from euthanasia. Now, Puka lives with her adoring owner and her tortoise sibling, Rocket Larry. Together, they try to use their 30,000 followers on Instagram to spread their message about cleft lip and adoption! One of the rescues they talk about the most is Fred’s Friends Rescue. Fred’s Friends Rescue is one of the only rescues in the United States to give these pups a chance.

Their Instagram is chock-full of over 1,100 of the most adorable photos you’ve seen of a dog. Although her disability causes problems for most dogs born with it, she has never let it hold her back. Puka has lived her life to the fullest, and it’s all thanks to the rescue who saved this rambunctious pup.
