On December 26, 2017, Swift Beef Co., also known as JBS USA Food Company, recalled nearly 4,702 pounds of beef stew products. The beef stew products were recalled for contamination by foreign matter.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) announced that plastic and metal parts were discovered among the beef stew products. The beef stew is specifically crafted for H-E-B retail stores is currently being recalled.

The recalled products were shipped to H-E-B stores in Texas where the contaminants were discovered about ten days later. Specific concerns are as follows:

- Cases containing six 5-lb. bulk cryo-vac plastic bags containing fresh beef stew meat intended for HEB grocery store retailer re-package. The affected case code is 69404.

- Re-packaged various weight beef stew meat trays that also contain separately wrapped vegetables. The meat trays are marked with establishment 7231 on the side of the tray.

- Re-packaged various weight beef stew labeled as HEB brand: Beef Stew Meat Tenderized RP, Beef Stew Meat RP, Beef Stew Meat VP, Beef Stew Meat-CR VP, Beef Stew Meat Tenderized VP, Beef Stew Meat CP, and Beef Stew Kit.

The contaminants were discovered on December 24 by an HEB store in San Antonio, Texas, when shipments were opened by staff. That same day, all stew meat was pulled from the shelves.

At this point, There have been no reports of unfortunate reactions caused by consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
