Smallbatch Pets Inc. of Portland, Oregon, has recently announced a voluntary recall of two lots of their frozen 2 lbs. chicken blend for dogs and cats. This recall was issued after a routine testing from the FDA revealed the presence of Salmonella in the select batches.
Salmonella can affect the pets that consume these products and it presents a risk for humans that handle these contaminated products as well.
A pet infected with Salmonella will have the following symptoms: diarrhea, be lethargic, have fever, vomit, decreased appetite, abdominal pain.

If humans fail to wash hands after handling these contaminated products, they can also suffer from the effects. Salmonella can affect humans in the following ways: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever.
It can result in more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract infection. If you or a loved one begin to exhibit such symptoms, contact your healthcare provider right away.
Currently, there have been no reported consumer illnesses reported. Smallbatch Pets Inc. chose to voluntarily recall these items because they hold high safety and quality standards and care for the wellbeing of their consumers.

The potentially affected lots of the 2 lbs. of Chicken Blend were distributed to stores in California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.
