Chantilly Lace is a beautiful black Labrador Retriever whose friends know her as Tilly. Tilly enjoys spending her free time running around and getting into trouble every chance she gets. Tilly loves to race through the fresh snow, and chase her ball, not caring about the cold or the snow that covers her fur after a good romp!
Tilly may be a pampered pup nowadays, but her life wasn’t always so amazing. In fact, the tale of Tilly’s young life is a rather sad one. She wasn’t born a stray or as the result of an accidental breeding like so many of these stories start. In fact, she was born as the result of a planned breeding between two purebred and registered Labs.
The first few months of Tilly’s life were what could be deemed perfect. She lived in a loving household, surrounded by her playful littermates and her gentle mother, without a care in the world. When it was time for her to go on to her new home, her breeder worked hard to find the perfect owner for her, not knowing how it was going to turn out.
Tilly’s new owners were hoping to breed her and sell her pups for a lot of cash, so they were only invested in making sure she was physically healthy. They didn’t take the time to socialize her and train her like they had promised the breeder they would. In fact, they essentially kept her locked away in their house while they waited for her to come of age so they could breed her.
When they took her to get a health check, the veterinarian discovered a mild heart condition. Her owners were angered because now any pups she produced would not come from healthy parents and would not sell for nearly as much. Therefore, they decided they no longer cared what happened to her. Luckily for Tilly, a man was in the right place at the right time. When his daughter, who had been looking for a dog, heard about Tilly she immediately adopted her.
It hasn’t been smooth sailing for Tilly and her momma since her adoption. In fact, Tilly has made it quite rough on her new momma. Her momma is a fighter, though, and refuses to give up on her, getting Tilly the training and socialization she desperately needed. Slowly, they’re overcoming the neglect that she suffered. Nowadays, Tilly is a beloved family pet and is valued as more than what her puppies would be worth. Although the middle years of her life were a bit rough, it’s worked out for the best.
