Luvable Dog Rescue is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) dog rescue in Oregon dedicated to rehoming small breed & bully breed dogs who were once on death row. Luvable often takes in dogs from the Porterville Animal Shelter, in California, that are about to be euthanized.

Liesl Wilhardt, executive director of Luvable Dog Rescue was talking to a volunteer at the shelter when she asked questions that would save the lives of two brothers.

"I was talking to volunteer Shannon Corbit about the dogs we were receiving and just happened to ask her out of the blue if she had any unusual-looking or special needs dogs," Liesl told The Dodo. "She responded, 'Well, as a matter of fact, I do!' and she sent me Picasso's shelter intake photo. He was curled in a dog bed and looked very sad. His twisted face was startling, but he had soft and gentle eyes, and for me, it was love at first sight!”

Picasso (above) and Pablo (below) are brothers who were born to a backyard breeder. Pablo along with all the other puppies in their litter were adopted by different families, but no one wanted Picasso because of the way his deformed face.

Since Picasso was unable to be sold the breeder took him to the Porterville Animal Shelter where he was put on the euthanasia list immediately.

By chance, Pablo ended up at the same shelter not long after Picasso arrived because his family was unable to care for him anymore.
