On October 9th, Clint and Kathy Weaver awakened in the middle of the night to find their home being engulfed in flames. The couple was able to escape but were unable to get to their nine-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, Izzy out. They tried to get her, but she had run the other way in the chaos.

"They had to drive through walls of flames and across a burning wooden bridge to get to Mark West Springs Road and to safety," Beckyjean Widen, the couple's daughter, wrote in a Facebook post. "They lost everything." But the most heartbreaking thing was the loss of their beloved pet, Izzy. This is what their daughter wrote on her Facebook:

"Just a heart-warming story to share in the middle of all this devastation. My parents woke up with flames surrounding their house in Wikiup Bridge Way [in Santa Rosa, California] and had seconds to get out. In the chaos of trying to escape, my parent's dog Izzy ran from them. My mom couldn't chase after her without risking her own life."

"My mom was most devastated about leaving Izzy. My brother and husband were determined to try to get back to my parent’s property to see if, by some miracle, Izzy survived. They were turned away by police officers, but if you know my brother Jack or husband Patrick, neither one likes to be told no. They ended up hiking just under three miles to my parent's property. This video shows the last part of their hike up to my parent's house. It's a little long, but the ending is worth the watch." Watch the video, below, and see the tearful reunion!

Izzy had survived. "When she came exploding out, that was an incredibly gratifying moment,” Jack Weaver told NBC News, adding, "I was so excited, that I dropped the phone."
