When Autumn Bartle’s parents arrived home on Good Friday, they never expected to open the door to a parent’s greatest fear. Autumn lay on the floor of their living room, blood pouring from the wounds scattered across her body. They rushed her to the hospital, praying that it would be enough to save her life.
Unfortunately, 14-year-old Autumn never recovered from the injuries, and she passed away three days later. Her family donated her organs to others, saving the lives of multiple other people, even though they were dealing with this horrific tragedy.
Autumn had suffered 80 stab wounds and had been shot in her left temple, before being left to die. She had desperately tried to escape her attacker, and the trail of blood left through the house told the tale of the horror she had endured. From the bloodied handprints on the walls and beds to the marks left as she tried to climb out a window.
When police began to investigate, they found her cousin, Colin Haag III, walking alongside the road. As they approached him, he reached up with his gun and shot himself in the throat, not wanting to face what he had done.
After comparing the bullets from his self-inflicted wound to the shot in Autumn, they quickly realized that Colin had been the one to attack Autumn. In his backpack, they found a notebook with Autumn’s bloody handprint. Colin survived his wounds with the help of the hospital.
He has now been arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including aggravated assault, kidnapping, and criminal homicide. Police have yet to uncover any motive behind this brutal and horrifying attack.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family following the attacks, and the money is being raised by her uncle, George Bartle. As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised $18,811 of their $20,000 goal.
Please, keep Autumn’s friends and family in your prayers as they come to terms with this senseless murder. This is one attack that will surely affect the family for years to come, and they will need all of the prayers they can get to overcome this tragic situation. We pray that they will one day be able to find peace after this horrific loss.
