Over the past decade or so, the topic of Global Warming has been surfacing in the media more and more. While there are typically stubborn opinions on the matter, recent events have made it difficult to sweep the topic under the rug.

On January 7, 2018, Ain Sefra, a small town that borders The Sahara Desert (a.k.a The Hottest Desert in The World), was covered with snow. While snowfall in the desert seems like an unnatural phenomenon, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

Snowfall in The Sahara Desert has actually happened three times before this! In 1979, a snowstorm lasted only 30 minutes and stopped traffic! 37 years later, in 2016, snow fell again and settled on the desert sand dunes for over a day. Last year, in 2017, snow fell for the third time.

Some are calling it a coincidence but some are saying it sings of Global Warming. The debate over Global Warming is one that never seems to escape the media. But with crazy happenings like a 16-inch snowfall in The Sahara, you can see why people would begin to entertain the idea a little more seriously.

While the people of Ain Sefra are wondering what in the world is happening with the famous sand dunes, they can’t help but enjoy the rare and magnificent snowfall! Many locals made sure to record the snowfall on their smartphones and post to social media. Within minutes of sharing snow-covered sand dunes, the media went into a frenzy!!

The pictures are almost too crazy to believe; to see the famous rolling hills of orange almost completely covered in snow tricks the eye. When we first saw the pictures, we thought someone was pullin’ our leg! Once we saw the pictures with the orange peeking through the white snowfall, we knew for sure we weren’t being pranked!

The pictures are quite stunning and it's almost supernatural. It’s crazy to think that the Sahara Desert, which has gotten temperatures as high as 136 degrees Fahrenheit (58 degrees Celsius), also had a snowfall! A majority of snow melted by nightfall, but the pictures of this crazy occurrence will remain on The Internet forever. Regardless, how crazy is that to think about?!

Check out this video and let us know what you think! At this point, we can’t help but wonder if The Sahara Desert will see snowfall again anytime soon! Does it make you think more about Global Warming, or do you think it’s just a natural occurrence?
