A 20-year-old girl named Madison Sorrel and her boyfriend were at the Tulsa Animal Welfare Shelter in Oklahoma adopting a dog. While they were waiting on their poodle mix puppy to get ready to go home, she noticed an elderly man carrying a bag full of tennis balls.
While that seemed like a nice gesture, that's not all to this story. It turns out that the man was there to donated the bag on behalf of his beloved dog that had recently passed away.
Madison was so moved by the man, she took to twitter and posted a very sweet message about him. Her caption said: “We found out this gentleman was donating tennis balls in memory of a very loved pet. If this doesn’t make your day then I don’t know what will.” Her tweet has been like by more than 200,000 times, even making people cry by the selfless act of this elderly man.
“I didn’t expect it to get this much attention at all,” Madison said. Madison said why she wanted to share the photo, “It’s a sweet message,” she said. “You’re never too old to give your time and donate.”
The man's identity is unknown but Madison posted on Twitter that a family member saw her post and showed him. He is shocked at the reaction he is getting. He simply just wanted to honor his dog with the gift.
The shelter has had an overwhelming response to the gift, with many wanting to now get involved in any way they can. The shelter posted this, “We love getting donations from the community. Even if it’s food or blankets or towels, any little bit helps. We’re a municipal shelter, so the volume of animals we get is high, especially this time of year. Give back to your local shelter!” A volunteer posted below, “If you can’t donate goods, we’re always in search for more volunteers.”
This story proves one small act of kindness can make a huge difference and it doesn't matter how old or young you are. If you have it on your heart to give or to volunteer, do it. You never know who you may impact. We applaud this man and will follow in his footsteps! I bet there are some pretty happy pooches at the Tulsa Animals Welfare Shelter today.
