In 2011, Pernea was a victim of an acid attack. She used to hide her face from the world, completely ashamed of her appearance. She never wanted anyone to see her scars and think differently of her. She came to America to receive treatment and in her time there, she met a new friend. Through the encouragement of her friend and family members, Pernea learned that beauty isn't defined solely on your outer appearance - it goes so much deeper than that. She's made it her mission to spread this message to people all over the world so that they, too, can learn to feel confident in their own skin.
