Joey Wagner is an animal lover so he and his team created the Baie Ste. Marie Animal Society in Nova Scotia. The nonprofit animal society that helps to rescue and re-home animals. Wagner cares for all the animals but this particular rescue case touched his life like no other.
Wagner met 3-month-old Mojo when he rescued the Pit Bull/American Staffordshire terrier mix. The puppy was in bad shape when he was rescued as he was suffering from Demodectic mange and was very close to death. He needed help and Wagner and his team were there to meet his needs.
Demodectic mange, sometimes just called "demodex" or "red mange," is the most common form of mange in dogs. It is caused by the Demodex canis, a parasite that lives in the hair follicles of dogs. Under the microscope, this mite is shaped like a cigar with eight legs.
Mojo's previous owner had tried to save the dog, but did not have the resources he needed to take care of the dog and that is where the Animal Society stepped in. Because Mojo's condition was so severe, Wagner took the puppy right to the veterinary hospital for treatment. Still, Mojo's future was uncertain.
But thanks to the excellent care that he received, Mojo survived. Because of the mange it took a long time for Mojo's hair to grow back, so he had to wear a T-shirt to protect his sensitive skin. But eventually it did grow back, just look at what he looks like today...
According to Mojo's Facebook page, the puppy has grown up and is enjoying life with his dog siblings. All thanks to the efforts at Baie Ste. Marie Animal Society and the veterinary hospital Mojo, is doing great today. He is a happy and healthy dog who LOVES his owners.
