A sad situation unfolded in Richmond, Virginia this week and animal control authorities are at a loss to explain how anyone could have done such a thing. They were appalled to discover a dog crammed into a black trash bag and left behind to die.
Fox News reports that "The dog, a 5-year-old Shih Tzu mix, was ‘discovered by a citizen near Rock Church (Southside Richmond, VA) in a garbage bag,’ Richmond Animal Care and Control said in a statement posted to Facebook.”
Amazingly, the pup was still alive but she was not in good condition at all when she was rescued.
“Her little body is crawling with infection and needs immediate medical intervention,” the authorities added. They named the little girl, Annabelle, and they would like the public to know that she is receiving treatment and doing well. Now, they are focused on finding out anything they can on how she came to be abandoned in such a cruel way.
A spokesperson for Richmond Animal Care and Control gave a somber report on Saturday, “ Nothing yet on any information about any responsible parties."
After posting Annabelle’s photo and story on Facebook, the shelter received many heartwarming comments. One Facebook user posted: “I am losing faith in people. Thank you for giving this sweet girl a chance.” As of Saturday morning, the story had “more than 5,000 reactions and 4,000 shares.

“Our officers are looking for any information we can gather about this dog-she is a 5-year-old spayed Shih Tzu mix. Anyone recognize her? Anyone know anything about people connected to her? We just can’t believe she is still alive.
