On July 24th, 2018, one of Hollywood’s most iconic singers was discovered unconscious in her Hollywood Hills home. After arriving at her home, she was immediately transported to a Los Angeles hospital.
TMZ first reported that the singer, actress, and former Disney Channel star, Demi Lovato, found unconscious after a night of “celebrating with friends” for a birthday. It’s unclear as to who made the 911 call and for how long she was unconscious.
Once paramedics were with her, they realized that she was suffering from a drug overdose. Demi was treated with Narcan- an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses. TMZ captured the 911 call and recorded the first responders confirming a heroin overdose.
Demi Lovato is a 25-years-old music icon. Her voice has been compared to legends Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, and at only 14-years-old, she went from being a pre-teen with big dreams to being known around the world for her singing capabilities. Life as she knew it was over and the world would never know a day without her name.
Only three years later, at 17-years-old, Demi tried cocaine. From doing worldwide tours, releasing albums, and having every moment of her life in the press, she turned to the drug to help her cope and stay awake. Soon, her battle with cocaine included alcohol. Her father had a substance abuse problem as well which Demi believes introduced the curiosity for drugs.
For the next couple of years, she would fight just to make it through one day without a substance. In the midst of battling substance abuse, Demi also so suffered from the bipolar disorder and body dysmorphia.
This makes me cry 💔 . . . This family is so strong, and has been through a lot. So proud of them! . . After years of battling mental diseases and substance abuse, Demi began working with a sober coach. Fox News confirms that Demi split from her management team and sober coach just weeks after performing a new song “Sober” that referenced her relapse. Fans were so proud of Demi for sharing about her struggle publicly, but many also feared that this was the end of her sobriety.
Sadly, that’s exactly what happened. On July 24th, fans around the world were heartbroken to learn that the worst had happened; Demi was unconscious and fighting for her life. Celebrities around the world used their platform to ask others for prayer and her family shared their fear as well knowing that Demi might not make it through the night.
On July 25th, it was confirmed that the initial report of a heroin overdose was untrue; the exact drug that she overdosed on has yet to be released. Demi’s aunt has shared that she is in a stable condition and continues to ask for prayers.
Demi was scheduled for a tour to Atlantic City during the last week of July but those shows have been canceled. Please pray for Demi and her family. The spotlight has been known to terrify people to death and with substance abuse and a mental disorder, pain is only magnified. Please be praying for Demi.
