85-year-old Soon-Tek Oh is a beloved Disney star, who won the hearts of everyone when he played Mulan’s father, Fa Zhou, in the Disney film, Mulan. Unfortunately, he passed away in Los Angeles on April 4, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Soon-Tek Oh was born on June 29, 1932, in Mokpo, Japanese Korea - or South Korea as it is now called. Soon-Tek emigrated with his family to America as a teenager and went on to graduate with a Masters in Fine Arts from University of California, Los Angeles.
His acting career began on Broadway, where he appeared in the original cast of the musical Pacific Overtures. In 1995, he went on to found the Korean American theatre group, Society of Heritage Performers which would later be known as the Lodestone Theatre Ensemble.
Soon-Tek Oh has received over 116 credits for his work in films and on television. Although his role as Mulan’s father is definitely one of his more memorable pieces, he also starred in many other popular films and shows, including MacGyver, M*A*S*H*, Charlie’s Angels, Hawaii Five-O, and even Touched By An Angel.
Soon-Tek Oh’s death is a harsh loss to everyone who loved watching him, but even more so to his dear loved ones. Please, keep his family and friends in your prayers tonight as they are faced with this horrible tragedy.
