Bitter Feelings Bubble To The Surface Between Royal Family And Princess Diana’s Brother, Costing Him Dearly At Nephew Harry’s Wedding

June 04, 2018

It’s no secret that Princess Diana’s only brother, Charles Spencer bears ill will toward the Royal Family concerning the way they behaved in the aftermath of his sister’s divorce from Prince Charles in 1996. Earl Spencer was most livid about the Queen’s decision to strip his sister of her HRH designation after her divorce from Prince Charles. (Below, a young Prince Harry with mum, Princess Diana)

He suggested that even without the designation, she was still superior to the Royals.” This did not go over well with the Royals, and some of the fallout from that sentiment is still being felt to this day, as evidenced by his treatment at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials. (Below, Earl Charles Spencer and wife Karen arrive at the May 19th wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle)

Charles Spencer is said to have been very close to the young princes, William and Harry, over the years, and the relationship evidently continues to this day.

So when the time came for the wedding of the younger of his sister’s sons, you would think that he would receive a place of honor as an uncle of the groom. Not so.

In fact, Uncle Charles had one of the least prominent seats in the house, and even celebrities of the sports and entertainment world got better treatment. The Earl was relegated to the back of the church, behind tennis ace Serena Williams and husband Alexis, and Hollywood hunk George Clooney and wife Amal. He was seated next to another family ‘outcast’ Sarah Ferguson, Harry’s aunt, who is divorced from Prince Andrew. (Below, Sarah Ferguson arrives at nephew Harry's wedding, waving to the crowd)

It's unfortunate that there is still animosity between the Royals and Princess Diana's brother. The most tragic victims of the snub, though, are the boys that Diana loved so much, William and Harry. They have to feel caught in the middle and it's too bad that the tragic loss of their mother has been compounded by the rancor that survived - and continues to create drama to this day.
