Fires are incredibly frightening. As a child, one of my biggest nightmares was being caught in a house fire with no easy way to escape. For some, this nightmare has been a devastating reality.

Emergency workers in Atlanta, Georgia, received a call about a fast burning fire at an apartment complex. When they arrived on the scene, it was more devastating than they had anticipated. Their first mission was to check to see if anyone remained inside the building. If so, they would hurry them out to safety.

They combed through the fire-engulfed building and, thankfully, no one was found inside. As they made their way around the area, they spotted a dog lying on the porch of the building. They knew they had to find a way to rescue him as soon as possible.

They sped in his direction, grabbed him from the porch area, and quickly got him down to safety. When they began to inspect the canine, they noticed he wasn’t breathing or responding to commands. That’s when they lept into overdrive.

An officer quickly came to his side and began patting on his body in an attempt to aid in resuscitation. The dog still remained lifeless. The officer continued on, pleading, “Come on!” as he patted.

A few short moments later, they got what they were hoping for. The dog began to breathe on his own and sat up. They all rejoiced with excitement that their canine friend had miraculously recovered!

Sadly, they were unable to find the owner of the pup, now named Smokey. He was placed in the loving hands of the local animal service agency and is happily and healthily awaiting his new forever home. Check out the video, below, to see in the heroic scene!
