Aspen, Colorado, is a gorgeous mountain town that got its start during the Colorado Silver Boom in the 1800’s. As time went along, the city changed from mining town to resort town and it is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United States, because of the beautiful ski slopes that surround the area.
The slopes receive quite a lot of loose snow which is what makes it the perfect ski area. Unfortunately, it also puts it at risk of avalanches when the snow is too unsteady. Avalanches are horribly dangerous and have caused many deaths and injuries throughout the years. Which is why we’ve had to find ways to help reduce the risk of these magnificent powerful occasions.
With the help of strategically placed fuel-air explosives, they’re able to have controlled avalanches at times when the slopes are clear from people. When the authorities around Aspen decided it was time for another controlled avalanche, people flocked to downtown where they could watch the snow as it thunders down the mountain. It’s truly a mesmerizing sight.
