On March 26, an SUV plunged over a cliff along the pacific coast highway, killing everyone inside. The Hart family was inside the vehicle at the time, and when the SUV landed upside down on the rocks below, it is believed the entire family perished. Police have found the body of three of the families six children, who were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Markis Hart, 19, and Jeremiah and Abigail Hart, 14, were found deceased, and police are still searching for Sierra Hart, 12, Devonte Hart, 15, and Hannah Hart, 16.
15-year-old Devonte Hart became internet famous when a photo of him hugging a police officer at a Ferguson protest in Portland, Oregon, on November 25, 2014, went viral. Police are not sure that the missing children were in the vehicle at the time, but they are currently working under that assumption. Unfortunately, during the course of their investigation, the police have begun to foster a horrible suspicion.
There are no signs that they attempted to stop the car before it drove over the cliff, no skid marks or any other sign that they attempted to stop the vehicle. Police also discovered that the family was under investigation by Child Protective Services who had been called in about suspected abuse and neglect. In 2010, Sarah Hart, one of the parents, was charged with malicious punishment of a child and domestic assault. Unfortunately, as police continue their investigation, it seems that more horrible discoveries are sure to come to light.
This is a horrible story, and we know that sometimes we need a reminder of the good in the world at a time like this, so be sure to check out the video below!
