Casey Hathaway is alive!
The residents of Craven County in eastern North Carolina were on the hunt for a three-year-old little boy named Casey Hathaway after he went missing from his grandmother’s yard. The toddler had gone outside with two other children, but according to the FBI spokesperson, Shelley Lynch, Casey “did not come back with the other children."
After searching for him for 45 minutes, Casey’s family reached out to first responders. Police and rescue teams desperately searched through the woods. Volunteer Donna Harris shared that they searched the “thicket and the briars for three-and-a-half, four hours and it was bad.” Several members of the search crew were terrified that the little Casey would not be found. She added, “It was really bad out there. If everybody could come and help look for him, it would help. As it got darker, it was scary out there. I just can’t imagine a 3-year-old being out there.”
Casey’s family was desperate for a miracle after more than 48 hours of searching. Finally, after what felt like forever, a professional search and rescue team found Casey.
Little Casey was found soaking wet and calling out for his mom when they found him. The Daily Mail reports that he was discovered about a quarter mile from where he was last seen in his grandmother’s yard. Shelley Lynch of the FBI has confirmed that the boy is in good health and was treated at Carolina East Medical Center to ensure his health. He is reunited with his family.
The Daily Mail shares that Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes, confirmed his status to news stations by cheerfully announcing that 'The little fella is happy and his parents are very happy as well.”
Casey’s mother, Brittany, took a moment to thank the rescue team who looked for her son. In an emotional announcement, she confirmed that Casey was “good and up and talking and already asking to watch Netflix.”
Casey’s aunt, Breanna Hathaway, took to Facebook to share the miracle of her nephew’s discovery. “Casey is healthy, smiling, and talking. He said he hung out with a bear for two days God sent him a friend to keep him safe,” she added. “God is a good God. Miracles do happen.”
We are so excited for the Hathaway family and are thankful for the rescue team and the prayers for Casey Hathaway. This is one of the rare occasions where search and rescue groups have good news to share and we believe that little Casey had angels surrounding him.
