Beloved Actress Dies At 92 Leaving Behind A Legendary Television Legacy; Fans Mourn Her Great Loss

On August 6th, 2018, fans were heartbroken to learn that one of the iconic faces from “The Facts of Life” cast had passed away.


Charlotte Rae passed away on Sunday, August 5th, 2018. She was surrounded by her family and friends in her Los Angeles home. Harlan Boll, Charlotte’s publicist, confirmed her death. While her cause of death was not disclosed, fans believe that Charlotte lost her battle to the bone cancer that she was diagnosed with earlier this year.

Charlotte’s most prized role was the hat of Mrs. Garrett in NBC’s "Diff'rent Strokes.” After a massive success in ratings, the show was given a sequel: “The Facts of Life.” Charlotte’s character was exceptionally beloved by the show’s fans.


Prior to playing the role of Mrs. Garrett, Charlotte worked on Broadway where she heard Emmy and Tony nominations.


Charlotte’s personal life was difficult in the midst of her success. After learning that her son, Andy, was diagnosed with Autism, Charlotte found it incredibly difficult to manage the disease. Her marriage had also ended after her husband disclosed to her that he was bisexual and wanted an open marriage. The divorced in 2011.


Following her death, fans and actors alike remembered her legacy with sadness. The Tony Award-winning actress Audra McDonald shared on Twitter: "She was so sweet, funny, wise, lovely, and brilliant. She will be so missed. Rest In Peace Sweet Charlotte Rae."


Adam Feldman also remembered Charlotte with a loving tweet: “RIP Charlotte Rae, 92, sitcom den mother, nonpareil comic actor and singer, recipient of and kindly respondent to my very first fan letter.”
