Check Out This Live Footage of Orcas At Rubbing Beach in British Columbia

August 29, 2017

Orcas are some of the most beloved ocean mammals; it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t love them. Unfortunately, because of how much we love these majestic creatures, they are often kept in captivity. These animals are accustomed to swimming 100 miles every day in the wild, so when kept in captivity it is impossible to meet their exercise needs. In addition, they suffer with social problems as each pod has their own language they speak!

These cameras will give you the opportunity to see the Northern Resident community of orcas in their natural habitat. These waters are home to over 150 orcas during the summer, and you can see them performing beach rubbing at this location. Beach rubbing is a behavior where orca whales perform shallow dives to scrub their bodies against pebble beaches to help keep them clean.
