The heartbreaking missing person’s case of Mollie Tibbett’s has taken a turn since her body was discovered on Tuesday, August 21st, 2019.
Friends and family of Mollie were devastated to learn the tragic truth that she had been murdered. Her remains were found in a cornfield in Poweshiek County in Iowa.
Christian Bahena Rivera, 24, has been suspected as the killer of Mollie. On August 22nd, he made his first appearance in court where he was charged as an illegal immigrant and with the murder of Mollie. He was responsible for leading investigators to her body on August 21st.
Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent Rick Rahn confirmed that he was an illegal immigrant: “We have confirmed with Homeland Security investigations that he is an illegal alien, and we believe that [Rivera] has been in this area now for four to seven years.”
Since his first charge, Rivera’s social media has been compromised and what has become available to the public is deeply concerning.
"Well, let's start with Facebook. Christian Rivera profile has a pic posted of machine guns laying on a bed. Clearly. This guy is trouble. People he worked for in Iowa saw these pics. Facebook can do an algorithm, reverse image search, and find those who are here illegally," one disturbed and angered American wrote on Twitter.
Now, many are confused at why Rivera’s pictures of guns were never alarming before. Being an illegal immigrant in possession of multiple firearms has caused many to wonder if this murder was something that could have stopped. The signs are difficult to ignore.
President Trump addressed the case publicly with specific attention to Rivera’s illegal immigrant status and called “immigration laws a disgrace.”
Since pairing Rivera with the case, authorities have been able to understand Mollie’s disappearance and murder in a horrific scene. Authorities believe that “Rivera allegedly confessed that he “seized Mollie running.” And that he “ran alongside of her or behind her before he began following her around, circling around a couple times, locating her, and then began to interface with her.” There is also video footage of Mollie running from a black truck that is believed to be Rivera’s.
Please continue praying for Mollie’s family and friends during this devastating time.
