In 1886, one syrupy, carbonated, cold drink changed the world. Coca-Cola changed the beverage industry when Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton created a beverage with pharmacy bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson, in which syrup and carbonated water mix together. The drink was deemed ‘excellent’ and the pair has never looked back.

The drink was immediately favored by all, and the businessmen knew that the drink needed to be available to everyone - and they meant it. Coca-Cola would be bottled, manufactured, and sold across the world. The brand immediately became a household name and the flavor and iconic bottle have literally become iconic.

The age-old debate has always been Coca-Cola or Pepsi. For most, it’s not even a legitimate question; Coca-Cola is the crown jewel of the beverage world and that will never change! However, Coca-Cola has some new things coming in 2018 that are leading people to question the product that they know so well.

For the past 35 years, Coca-Cola has offered a diet version of the soda. The Diet Coca-Cola has a wild following as well; after all, it’s always had a quality that consumers can count on. However, 2018 is welcoming something very different for Diet Coca-Cola.

The iconic packaging of Diet Coca-Cola is changing. The company is swapping out their traditional cans for a version can with a new logo. As if that’s not enough change, they’re also introducing four new flavors of Diet Coca-Cola.

The new flavors are going to be Zesty Lime, Twisted Mango, Zesty Blood Orange, and Feisty Cherry. These new flavors are leaving loyal Coca-Cola fans confused, but of course, hopeful. After mixed feedback from consumers, the company assured fans that the original flavor of Diet Coca-Cola would not be changing.

So what’s the reason for this change to a successful brand? Diet Coke sales have fallen as more people switch to other low-calorie drinks, such as flavored fizzy water. Corporate is hoping to increase sales with new branding, "We're maintaining the essence of Diet Coke while modernizing the brand to invite a new generation of drinkers to try it.”

What are your thoughts? Are you going to take a leap of faith and try the new flavors or are you going to completely jump the Coca-Cola ship and consider Pepsi has an option for best soda beverage? We want to know!
