It has been a wonderfully exciting year thus far for the British royal family. There have been several pregnancies announced, Prince William and Kate Middleton have welcomed a precious little Prince into the family, the family has jointly celebrated monumental occasions, and they’ve been diligently preparing for two weddings: Prince Harry’s and Princess Eugenie’s.
Amid the glorious hustle and bustle of royal life these days, there are a few areas that have taken a bit more serious of a note. While many are focused on every detail of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, others have wondered about members of the family that will attend.
The one that has caused the greatest concern is Prince Philip. Prince Harry has always had a very close relationship with his grandfather and has always wanted him to be present during the most exciting moments of his life.
Upon his grandfather’s recent sickness, he knew that if he didn’t make his wedding date earlier than later, there was a chance that Philip would not be able to attend. Philip underwent a much-needed hip replacement at the ripe age of 96. Amid much concern, he was able to make a rather remarkable recovery.
A surgery of this magnitude does take a great deal of recovery time and has slowed him down a great deal. Prince Philip has always been very independent and isn’t one to show signs of weakness. Sources have recently spoken out about his health concerns and his presence at the wedding, putting many speculations to rest.
“He’s getting better but we don’t know will he go for the whole day. He’s still in a bad way and it takes a long time to recover. The thing with the Duke is he will not want to be seen in a wheelchair publicly. He’s a very independent person. He likes to do things himself.”
The source went on to say, “He’d rather miss the wedding than be seen out in a wheelchair.” They also stated that he will likely attend the nuptials but will forego any additional celebrations afterward.
Even though he won’t be able to come to everything, it is likely a huge relief to know that his grandfather will be at the most important ceremony of his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Prince as he makes his steady recovery!
