I can't imagine the pain of losing a child. It has to be the worse kind of pain to feel because children are supposed to out live their parents. For one family in Deluth, Minnesota their two Bassett hounds tried to ease the pain and refused to leave the side of their dying infant.

Nora Hall was just 5 months old when she suffered a massive stroke on April 6th. Just three short weeks later on May 2nd Nora passed away. But this is the story of what happened within those three weeks.

Mary Hall and her husband, John got the devastating news from the doctor's that Nora would not survive her injuries. The stroke had affected both sides of the brain and had caused irreversible damage. The Halls knew that Nora would not live long and they wanted to do something special. The family had two dogs at home 8-year-old Grumpy and Gracie, who loved Nora from the moment she arrived home from the hospital, Hall said.

“Gracie, especially, took on the role as second mother,” she said. “Whenever Nora would cry, Gracie would run to see what was wrong. She was always, always by Nora and kissing her and making sure she was OK.”

So without hesitation, the couple asked to bring the two dogs in to say their goodbyes to their beloved Nora. “I asked, ‘If you could let us have our dogs at the hospital, we’d really appreciate that,'” Hall said. “I didn’t want to go home and have them sniffing around for her and not knowing where she went. They lowered the bed so the dogs could lay with her and Gracie ran up and licked her Nora.”

“It was really nice. It brought us a lot of comfort to have them there. But by the end of the first day, you could see they were stressed out and depressed. Normally, they’re very happy-go-lucky. We knew they could sense there was something wrong," Hall said.

The couple took these beautiful pictures of the dogs and Nora before her passing. Hall said she is extremely grateful to the Hospital and staff for allowing this to happen. Watch the sweet video below:
