An Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to Honolulu was forced to make an emergency landing after one of the engines began to overheat as they flew over the ocean. Flight 145 was approaching the islands when an oil bypass light came on in the cockpit, and the pilot was forced to make a frightening decision.

The captain announced over the speakers that due to the engine beginning to overheat, they were going to be forced to put one of the plane’s engines into idle as they flew. He warned the passengers that when they did land, it was going to be a quicker landing than typical, and a fire crew would be standing by just in case.

The pilot officially declared an emergency, and people began to fear for the safety of the passengers as the news picked up the developing story.

Thankfully, the other engine and the rest of the plane was behaving normally and the plane was able to stay in the air. When the emergency was first declared, the pilot was planning on landing at the Maui airport, but they were able to maintain safety and he decided to make the decision to carry on to Honolulu.

That decision was a risky one, as the pilot made the decision to carry on the flight, knowing the engine damage that was involved could have caused the plane to fall from the sky. It appears that this pilot, however, knew what they were doing and the plane touched down safely in Honolulu.

When passengers on board began to turn their phones back on after landing, their phones were inundated with messages and missed calls from their loved ones who had seen the news.

This flight could have been the latest in airplane disasters, but thanks to the quick thinking and good decision-making skills of the Pilot, this story was able to have a happy ending. The plane landed safely, and not a single passenger or crew member reported an injury, making this a clear success.

This is a concerning story, and we know that sometimes we need a reminder of the good in the world at a time like this, so be sure to check out the video below!
