Diabetic Boy Brought His Service Dog To School Every Day. At The End Of The Year What He Found In The Yearbook Was No Surprise [VIDEO]
When A.J. Schalk was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, he knew he would need some extra help monitoring his blood sugars. Especially during school hours. Luckily, his parents knew exactly what to do. One day they brought home a dog named Alpha. Alpha, a black lab, was trained as a service dog.
Now A.J. could go about his school days without worrying about his blood sugars so much. If his sugars were too low or too high, Alpha would warn him. Alpha could smell the blood sugars and sense something was wrong, 40 minutes before A.J. had any clue. Needless to say, A.J. needed Alpha by his side.
A.J. and Alpha formed a special friendship over their time together. Because of Alpha's unique training, A.J. brought him to school every day and people took notice of the lovable dog. Everyone loved Alpha so much, they decided he needed a special place in the yearbook.
