With the royal wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry only weeks away, Meghan and Prince Harry are up to their eyeballs in wedding details. While the couple got engaged in November 2017, Her Majesty The Queen has only just now given her official consent.
On Thursday, March 15, 2018, The Queen officially gave her consent during a Privy Council meeting with a simple declaration. The Declaration read, "I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which Consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council."
This is an enormous step in the engagement process, although, the attention is being shifted from the celebration of Her Majesty’s consent. Curious as to why?
Well, only years ago when the Queen gave her consent to Prince William and Kate Middleton, she chose a much more vibrant declaration. In the Queen’s consent declaration for William and Kate, she shared that Kate was "trust and well-beloved."
People are wondering if the Queen flat out disrespected Meghan with a lack of attention towards her character. Given the speculation that Meghan’s journey into Harry’s family has been somewhat rocky, the simple declaration has raised an eyebrow to the rest of the world.
To be fair, the Queen's written declaration was just as simple as Meghan's; the Queen shared her appreciation of Kate's character verbally. Which means that there is still hope for her to recognize Meghan's character verbally as well... I guess time will tell regarding that!
Meghan responded with her thoughts regarding the matter where she replied with rather surprising feedback. Rather than commenting on the lack of attention given to her own character, Meghan honored the Queen.
She shared, “She’s incredible, I think, you know, to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honour and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother, all of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her… She's an incredible woman."
We are certain that the relationship is steady and the simplicity in the Queen’s consent was the intention and respectful, as always. Let’s celebrate the official consent of the Queen and give this breaking news the moment it deserves! We are more than thrilled for the couple and can’t wait for the big day on May 19th, 2018!
