Down Syndrome Woman Was Told She Wouldn’t Be Able To Do Much Physically. Today She’s Defying Odds And Proves Dreams Do Come True

February 13, 2018

When Chelsea Wagner was born, her parents were given a rather grim prognosis. She had Down Syndrome and they said she would always have low muscle tone and there was little the parents could do to improve it. Her parents took it for what it was - a mere statement. They knew that their precious bundle of joy might end up being a little different than others but she was an absolute star. Now that she’s a teen, that description couldn’t be more accurate.

Chelsea was unable to walk until she was two years old. Her parents had come to expect there might be some delays but encouraged her development every single step of the way. When she turned eight, she began to show interest in playing sports. Her parents gave her opportunities for any sport she wished, and she chose swimming, soccer, baseball, and gymnastics.

For her, one stood out far above the rest: gymnastics. It was apparent in the way she performed that she had found her true passion. She got a coach and focused solely on this sport. Needless to say, this was the start of a beautiful future.

Chelsea excelled in every way possible. She holds four medals for being the Special Olympics U.S. National Champion in gymnastics. She also is the two-time defending World Champion in gymnastics. She’s completely defied the odds surrounding her situation and has inspired people of all ages along the way. She wants nothing more than to be an encouraging role model. On her website, www.chelseaworldchampion.com, she states her mission:

“I have broken many barriers over the years and so can you! Everyone has challenges in their life. It’s how you face these challenges that make[s] the difference. Don’t let anyone tell you [that] you can’t do something. I hope I can be a role model for not giving up and working hard to overcome obstacles that I’ve faced in my life.”

Her athletic career has gained her enough exposure that she grabbed the attention of modeling agencies. Now, she spends her days continuing to break records in the athletic world and modeling for We Speak Modeling Agency in New York City.

Her tenacity and determination for life leave us in complete awe. Check out the video, below, for a glimpse into the life and times of this superstar. You continue winning over the hearts of the world, Chelsea!
