On July 1st, 1961, the world welcomed little Diana Spencer. Today, the world remembers that day as the day a world changer was born. Diana would later go on to be one of the most iconic influencers in the world when she married Prince Charles and became a member of the British Royal Family.
During her time in the Royal Family, millions of people watched as she navigated the alien life of a Royal; it was clear from the beginning that Diana was cut from a different cloth, although her opposing viewpoints did not make her enemies with the world, but instead, it bonded her with it. In a world where the Royals and the rest of the world were so separate, Diana became a bridge that connected the two.
Tragically, Diana died on August 31st, 1997 after killed in a car accident. Princess Diana was only 36 years old when she died. Her loss struck the world’s heart when people from every continent mourned the loss of the “People’s Princess.” And while her loss was felt deeply by all who adored her from afar, it was her two sons: Princes William, 15, and Harry,12, who unimaginably felt her loss the most.
It’s now been more than 20 years since her tragic passing and her loss is still felt in each passing day. However, her memory lives on through her two sons. In recent years, William and Harry have accomplished significant life events; William married Kate Middleton in 2011 and now they have three beautiful children, and Harry recently married Meghan Markle, a woman that so many have compared to his wonderful mother.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been a constant reminder of Diana; their love is genuine and many would argue even to call it unconventional. The two wed on May 19th, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. In the last month of their marriage, many fans have complimented Meghan by saying that she’s been similar to Princess Diana with her journey into the Royal Family.
This year on July 1st, Princess Diana would have been 57 years old. Fans around the world remember Diana on her birthday, but perhaps Meghan Markle, the late Princess’ daughter-in-law, paid one of the most fitting tributes to the beloved princess on her birthday.
While Meghan attended a polo match where she arrived in a chic ensemble that had fans immediately remembering Diana. For the day out, Meghan opted for a simple summer dress in one of Diana’s most iconic patterns: gingham. Meghan’s gingham dress had had a large collar, buttons down the middle, and a belt at the waist. She looked simply chic in Diana’s adored pattern while she cheered on her husband, Prince Harry.
Only true Princess Di fan’s caught wind of Meghan’s tribute. Diana was in love with fashion and became an icon early in her Royal journey. But more than fancy designer dresses, Diana often chose gingham while at home or out casually. She was often seen in vibrant colors while Meghan tends to steer towards a more earth tone palette. We can’t wait to see how else Meghan honors her mother-in-law down the road! It’s only just the beginning!
And to Diana- Happy birthday our forever Princess! You’ll never be forgotten and you would be so proud of your boys today!
