The residents of downtown Durham, North Carolina, are in urgent need of your prayers this very moment.
On April 10, a routine contracting job went awry, leaving fifteen civilians extremely injured and one dead. The contractor was doing drilling work on a sidewalk in the downtown area when he accidentally came in contact with a gas line which had a leak.
As soon as the contact was made, the entire area exploded, destroying the neighboring homes, a coffee shop, and a nearby psychiatrist office.
The surrounding area was engulfed in thick, black smoke and heavy flames. Medics and local authorities rushed to the scene to try and salvage the other nearby areas to prevent the accident from spreading.
The head of the police department, Will Glen, spoke to sources following the incident: “He hit a two-inch gas line which caused an explosion and also a partial building collapse.”
A resident of the area also commented on the situation: “I’ve never seen anything like it before. I was sitting at the traffic light and I smelled heavy, heavy gas. I saw a business owner but a sign that said, ‘Busines is closed for the day because of a gas leak.’"
He continued: “As soon as I went through the traffic light, the whole building exploded.”
The location of the explosion was near Duke University and some of the employees have reported injuries from the shards of glass the flew their direction.
Please be in prayer for those affected by this horrific tragedy! Please pray that no more casualties are reported and that the situation will be under control sooner than later.
