It's not something you see every day. But for witnesses at the Port of Coxen Hole in Honduras, they got the scare of a lifetime - and a story to tell for years to come.
Imagine you are on vacation, enjoying the tropical splendor of the island of Roatan, known for its beaches and dive sites, and you look up to see a most bewildering sight: a giant cruise ship heading straight for you - and it doesn't seem to be slowing down in the slightest as it moves ever-so-close to the dock. What would you do??
Well, from the looks of it, one quick-thinking witness grabs her camera and starts filming, and the rest merely exclaim in utter disbelief as they watch the behemoth bearing down on them. Certainly, the ship would stop, right? Wrong!
Within seconds of onlookers noticing the accident about to happen, sure enough, the ocean liner passes every safeguard between the open water and civilization, as it crashes, full-bore into the dock, splintering everything in its path.
As the crowd tries to process what has just happened, they excitedly discuss the unexpected occurrence.
According to a local report, “the ship was coming from Cozumel, Mexico, and tried to deploy two anchors in order to avoid crashing into the port.
There were no injuries to the crew or any of the onlookers, and the reason for the incident is still being investigated.”
Thank goodness everyone was able to walk away without harm in what could have turned out to be a massive tragedy.
