By now, the whole world knows about the fabulous royal event that took place on Monday, April 23rd when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joyously welcomed their third child, a son, amid public hysteria over the blessed event.
Slowly but surely, members of the Royal Family have checked in, sharing their thoughts and feelings about the new arrival, and Prince Charles added a slice of self-deprecating humor when he gave his official comment.
The 69-year-old heir to the throne released a lively, nontraditional statement, Tuesday, on behalf of himself and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, after the birth of his older son Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s third child, a boy.
“We are both so pleased at the news,” Charles said in a statement. “It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”
His hilarious remarks came only one day after Kensington Palace announced that Kate had given birth on Monday, after she was admitted to the hospital earlier that day.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 11:01 hours,” the statement said. “The baby weighs 8lbs., 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.”
Prince Charles was, of course, included in the ‘official’ statement that was released upon the announcement of the baby’s birth:
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement continued. “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
But the Prince of Wales, known for his quick wit, had a little more to say that what could be included in the rather stuffy, boring decree from Buckingham Palace.
True to his personality and, undoubtedly his relationship with his boys, Charles poked fun at his own advancing age, while still managing to make it clear how delighted he is at the arrival of his new grandson.
Gotta love Prince Charles' playful attitude. It's a breath of fresh air among all the often stiff and straight-laced statements we usually get from the Royal Family!
Now that we’ve heard how the Royals reacted to the birth, let’s hear from the real experts - the fans who waited outside the hospital for up to two weeks - for word of the royal birth.
