As time marches on, it becomes more and more evident how close the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex are becoming. The prime example was when the two stepped out together - without husbands Prince William and Prince Harry - to have a girl’s day at Wimbledon this July.
One can tell from the photos that have emerged from the ‘date’ that Kate and Meghan seem to really enjoy one another’s company.
Now we are finding out one of the reasons for the closeness between the new sisters-in-law, and it has everything to do with Prince Harry. In the early part of 2016 when his relationship with Meghan Markle was becoming serious, he was determined to get the advice from someone whom he admires and respects.
Other than his big brother, Prince William, with whom Harry shares an extremely close relationship, there was one other member of the family to whom the prince felt he needed to turn. And that was his brother’s wife, Kate Middleton.
According to the Sun, “The pair have known each other for 15 years - since Prince William first introduced Kate to his brother in 2003.”
Harry and Kate have been very close through the years with Kate even acting as a mentor to her husband’s younger brother, becoming a ‘big sister’ of sorts to help Harry through difficult moments in his life.
During his 2017 interview with Newsweek, Harry revealed that "There was no filling the hole left by Diana’s death, and Harry seemed to be growing up without someone emotionally available he could lean on.
"Kate has helped fill some of that gap. When she and William got engaged, Harry called her the big sister he never had.”
In fact, Kate and Harry’s cousin Eugenie teamed up on occasion to play matchmaker for the single Harry. That was before he met Meghan, of course.
So, when the time came when Harry began thinking about a future with Meghan, he turned to the one female whom he trusted above all others - to seek her advice on and approval for marrying Meghan.
In speaking to Grazia, Royal biographer Katie Nicholl put it this way: "Harry and Kate are very close, she’s been like a mentor to him and he wanted her seal of approval," a source told Nicholl.
"Kate is different to Meghan in many ways, but she has made great strides to help Meghan settle in."
It looks as though Meghan has struck gold with having Kate for a sister-in-law, and this pair of Duchesses just may be the key to the future popularity of the Royal Family, even though they are Royals by marriage only.
If Meghan continues to seek and follow the advice of her sister-in-law, it won’t be long before the world is just as much in love with her as they are with Kate.
