Cinematic genius and beloved film creator, Ermanno Olmi, has died. He was 86 years old.
Ermanno died suddenly but peacefully in a hospital in northern Italy city, Asiago. His wife, Loredana, was three children, Elisabetta, Fabio, and Andrea, were deeply saddened by the loss of the father.
His cause of death has not yet been shared, but many fear that he died of natural causes since he was nearing 90 years old.
Ermanno was famous for role as a director. While he was a European director, he was known worldwide for his works The Tree of Wooden Clogs and The Legend of the Holy Drinker. Both films won international awards.
Once the town learned of his death, they cleared the day for a day of mourning. Asiago’s mayor, Roberto Rigoni Stern shared that the news is heartbreaking to the local community as well as the world.
Ermanna was a figure of creative genius to so many. He explored religion, spirituality, and history. His work captured the depth of mundane and common experiences, something that nearly everyone could relate to.
Ermanno’s wife, Loredana, is mourning the loss of her husband while their three children make funeral arrangements. The funeral is reported to be a private event.
