In Honor Of 'Mothering Sunday,' Buckingham Palace Releases Never-Before Seen Family Photo From 1965 - And The Whole World Is Charmed

March 12, 2018

In The U.S we have "Mother's Day" the one day each year when mothers are honored for their numerous and sometimes thankless contributions to not only the family but to society at large. Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May and every self-respecting son or daughter makes the effort to call, see, or send a card to his/her mom.

In the U.K, they have another holiday to commemorate mothers, but it is celebrated earlier in the year. It's called "Mothering Sunday" and is observed on the third Sunday of Lent. This year it fell on March 10. Across all social media platforms, U.K. citizens declare their devotion to and love for their mums.

One mum, in particular, gave a treat to the rest of the world by sharing an intimate photograph taken in 1965 of herself, her husband, and her four children. What makes this posting so special? The mum just happens to be Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, Monarch of the Commonwealth.

The photograph shows the family of six with an infant Prince Edward, smiling lovingly on the newest member of the family. they appear together in the garden of Frogmore House, a little-known favorite spot for a getaway that the Royal Family has enjoyed for decades.

The photo was originally taken in celebration of The Queen's 39th birthday, and seems a fitting tribute to post on Mothering Sunday, as she has her entire brood surrounding her! :-)

Interesting tidbit - Frogmore was where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had their engagement shoot some 50 years later!!

Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Prince Andrew and mother to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also took to Twitter to share her feelings about motherhood.

And here's a lovely tribute to several Royal mothers who help define the role for past, present, and future generations!
