When it comes to family, the motto for most is, “The more, the merrier!” There’s nothing quite like having a large family, especially around holidays. Kids are running wild, cheerfully giggling as they play together while the adults talk and laugh about days passed.
As the British royal family continues to expand with newborns and marriages, many consider just how large the family has become. Other lesser known members are beginning to come to light, intriguing the public more than ever before.
News has recently broke that one grandson, in particular, is favored most by Queen Elizabeth. Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t Prince William or Prince Harry! He is an integral part of the family, nonetheless, but has seemed to keep a lower profile in the eye of the public.
The gentleman is none other than Prince Anne’s only son, Peter Phillips. He is the oldest grandchild born to Anne and Captain Mark Phillips on November 15, 1977. Unlike William and Harry, Peter does not carry a royal title. The reason for this is that the titles are passed down through the male lineage and, since Captain Phillips isn’t a royal, his heirs are not given such title.
According to sources, Peter’s parents are said to have rejected an offer from the Queen of titles which would have enabled their children to be born into the peerage. They thought that rejecting said offer would enable their offspring to live a more normal lifestyle, unlike the one Anne always had. Though Peter does not carry a royal title, he is currently 13th in line to the throne.
In 2016, news broke that Peter spoke about his relationship with the Queen, letting us know just how close they truly are. “I’ve always been very close to my grandmother, and we speak often. She has been an inspirational person throughout my life,” he stated.
The close relationships the Queen has are often kept under wraps, so to hear that she is so highly fond of her eldest grandson is quite heartwarming. This goes to show that the family is private, indeed, and we can only scratch the surface of details and secrets kept behind palace walls.
