It Only Takes One Thing To Bring This Alzheimer Patient Back To His Cheery Old Self

Alzheimer’s Disease is a cruel thief. Within a matter of time, it can turn a family’s life upside down. Seeing a loved one lose his or her sense of memory and have a shift in personality can be one of the most devastating experiences. To make matters worse, there is currently no known cure for this vicious disease.

The best a family can do is to enjoy the moments left with their loved ones and make as many memories together as possible. A man named Mac McDermott knows this situation all too well, with his father, and knew he had to make the most of it. After a bit of thought, he discovered a way to bring joy to his father. In turn, their joy has brought smiles to faces all across the globe!

Mac’s father, Teddy, has always been a musical man. He was a "Butlin’s Redcoat" and traveled across the country to sing in hundreds of clubs. He quickly earned the nickname “Song-a-Minute Man” because of how many songs he could sing at the drop of a hat. When he began to experience signs of Alzheimer’s Disease, his family was completely devastated. Teddy reached a point where he struggled to remember family members, and could often be aggressive toward others.

One day, Mac started playing some of Teddy’s favorite music on the radio. As soon as the catchy song hit his ears, a grin broke across his face, and he began to sing, word-for-word, to the melody. It was in that moment that Mac knew he’d found his father’s true happiness. The duo sings together quite often on car rides and has gained quite a bit of attention from folks young and old on their YouTube channel called “The Songaminute Man”.

Teddy’s music has become so successful that he’s landed himself a record deal! They have chosen to send all the proceeds to further fund the work of the Alzheimer’s Society, in hopes of finding a cure for this wretched disease. Check out the video, below, to hear his beautiful voice!
